In this year’s Gothia Cup, South African Tramway FC played in the Boys 13 category. Something very important for the team’s coach, Beven Mashedi, was to always be there for the team and celebrate every little success. He was ready at the sidelines for every match, waving flags and wearing South Africa’s colours to cheer his team on. His title wasn’t entirely clear, but for him and the team, it’s all about being there for each other no matter what.
– I am both family and coach. I am one of those backseat drivers, but as part of the club, we are also family. We help and assist each other whenever we can, Beven Mashedi told us.
For coach Mashedi, it is important to always support and celebrate the team’s successes.
– We are family and understand each other’s backgrounds. The sacrifices these players make are incredible. So, every chance we get to love them, love their play, we do it, he said. This was something he radiated throughout the tournament – happiness, joy, and encouragement. He believes it is important to always support the players, and this has shown in the boys’ performance.
– We see the energy they get from it, and that’s why the results are as good as they are, the coach said after a match win during the 2024 Gothia Cup.
Every match is celebrated in some way, creating joy and a desire to come back – no matter the result. South African Tramway FC focuses a lot on this.
– As a club, we are over the moon. It’s been difficult getting here, with many sacrifices, but being here is absolutely amazing. The Gothia, the organization, the officials, the matches, the group stages, everything is just perfect. We will be here every year to support, celebrate, and participate, Mashedi said.
The most important thing for the team’s coach is to grow as a team, something he believes the players have contributed to during this year’s tournament.
– We came here as a team, but now we leave as an even stronger team, Beven Mashedi concluded the interview.
