Hutchison Vale returned to Gothia Cup 2024
They represented their country in the world’s largest youth tournament.
Hutchison Vale's B14 team was Scotland's only team at Gothia Cup 2024. Their goal was to represent their country and enjoy the experience.
– We are 100% here to have fun, says Kieran Miller, the coach for the Scots.
For Lucas Rose, a player for Hutchison Vale, representing Scotland meant a lot of different things.
– There is some pressure because we need to make sure we perform well. But above all, it is very fun; it is an honour to represent Scotland in the world's largest youth tournament, he says.
As a player, Kieran Miller never had the chance to play in Gothia Cup. Now he is here as a coach for Hutchison Vale.
– When you are here and see the joy in all the children, you naturally wish you could participate yourself, but I am happy for the players who get to play in the tournament, he says.
Hutchison Vale has a rich history of success in the Gothia Cup and has won the tournament six times since their debut in 1977. However, the 2024 participation was the first time the Scots were at Gothia Cup in seven years.
– It is a great experience to come here both for me as a coach and especially for the boys in the team. Many coaches in and around the club have spoken very highly of the tournament, and the experience has not disappointed us, says Kieran Miller.
Lucas Rose was happy that it was his team that got the chance to go to Gothenburg:
– I am grateful that it is us who were chosen to go. Several other teams in the club are very good, so it is a nice compliment that we got the chance to come here, he says.
The Scots' focus during the tournament week was on performing on the field but above all on enjoying the experience and having fun.
– The players have had fun, the travelling parents have had fun, we've all had a super fun week. It is important to find a balance and succeed on the field as well, and I think we have managed that during the week, says Kieran Miller.
