– It feels amazing to represent England, said Isla Third, a player for Northumberland County Schools FA's G16 team, ahead of the opening ceremony.
The Gothia Cup opening ceremony takes place every year on the Monday of the tournament week. It is one of the most cherished segments of the cup, with around 50,000 participating players and leaders filling Ullevi to partake in the tournament's opening festivities.
– It will be an incredibly powerful feeling to be in there and have the chance to represent England, said Isla Third before the opening ceremony.
The English girls played in the Gothia Cup for the first time in 2023. The opening ceremony was grand.
– The opening ceremony is my favorite memory from last year. Just seeing so many people on the field representing their countries, it’s magnificent, said Chloe Brannen, a player for Northumberland County Schools FA.
Despite the memorable opening ceremony the previous year, Chloe Brannen hoped for something even better for the 2024 ceremony:
– It has to be even better this year. I want to be impressed, she laughed.
