Gothia Cup
Gothia Cup need help from clubs around Gothenburg to make the tournament work, and are therefore cooperating with several clubs in the city. Hisingsbacka FC is one of these clubs, and they explain how the cooperation is mutually beneficial.
With 4341 matches to be played, you can be sure to witness lots of goals during Gothia Cup 2019. But so far one team stands out – Sävedalens IF. Why? They scored 34 goals in one game.
The 14 year old girls from FSCDM Minsk likes to travel, and they have done it a lot. Now they’re back at Gothia Cup – this time to win it. “This is the highlight of the summer”, says the players.
In a very close game between Japanese side ASLJ FC and French side FO Valesia 1 at Backavallen, the highlight of the game was the performance of Tsubaki, a girl playing with the boys in ASLJ FC. She put in a impressive performance against very good side who won their first game 11-1.
In this year’s tournament we find some new rules for the Boys 13 and Girls 13 classes. Instead of going directly from seven to eleven players on the pitch, the classes will now compete with nine-a-side teams. A system created for developing players.
The day has been filled with games from early morning and after tonight’s grand opening ceremony at a buzzing Ullevi stadium this year’s Gothia Cup is officially open.
The American ladies won the World Cup this summer. With happy memories of that victory in France the 17 year old American girls in NorCal Premier PDP now enter the invitational tournament Gothia Puma Trophy hoping to reach the gold medal as well.
Monday morning the first matches of this year’s edition of Gothia Special Olympics Trophy took place. A few hours later the tournament had its opening ceremony where the founder Kim Källström talked to the players and audience.
Teams travel from all over the world to play in Gothia Cup, and doing so they cover a lot of distance. None more so than our two teams from New Zealand. When Wellington United Diamonds took to the field for their first game today, they had a 30 hour journey behind them, covering approximately 18000 kilometres.
